We are D Champions, my friends!

By December 3, 2022 News

And we kept on playing ‘til the end…of the Howe Cup. The largest women’s squash tournament in the world was held in Philadelphia over November 4th-6th and MA Squash sent eight teams, two in each division, to compete, socialize and dance – perhaps not in that order.

They were joined by over 200 women from other regions who participated in either the singles, doubles, or both events.

Above is Boston’s victorious D team that dominated their four opponents, winning 17 individual matches while only dropping three. Posing with their winning trophies are (l-r) Sweety Ciriaco, Jacinth Cooke, Alicia Hart, Dianne Ferguson & Keislie Roble.

Chris Brownell and Susan Greene also took home very large picture frames for winning the B doubles.

If you want to feel part of this year’s MA Squash Howe Cup squad or just show your Boston squash pride you can still order a tank, short sleeve, long sleeve and hoodie through this link until November 27th. Many thanks to Lovey for the design and coordinating the shirts again this year.

I’ve put together a Flickr album with loads of photos of our MA Squash players. To see all of US Squash’s photos visit the Howe Cup’s SmugMug page of over 250 pictures.

If you’re a really hardcore fan, you can watch all the action since it was livestreamed throughout the weekend. And here are the draws so you can see the court assignments with all the results.

Many thanks to the division captains for their recruiting and organizational skills as well as for their contagious enthusiasm: Hope Prockop, Yuliya Epifantseva, Lovey Oliff and Lauren Mariano. Here’s the small village of team captains that made sure everyone got to where they were supposed to go: Lauren Xaba, Szilvi Szombati, Preeti John, Joyce Dendy, Gail Manning, Lovey, Jenny Funkhouser, Lauren and Alicia. Also many thanks to Kay MacDonald (if you know, you know).

And finally, our teams were enhanced by these players who aren’t from our district, but will always be honorary MA Squashers: Katiria Sanchez, Leslie Cameron, Megan Degraff, Gail, Chris Horner and Jenny Truong.

Let’s shoot for an even larger Boston contingent next year to showcase our terrific squash community. Who’s in?

Cheers,

Susan Greene
