Showdown “Junior Jam” with the world’s top pros

By September 22, 2013 Juniors, News

Taking advantage of the fact that 4 of the world’s top 8 squash pros were in Boston, Mass Squash sponsored another “Junior Jam” clinic this year on September 8th, the day after Showdown@Symphony IV.

52 lucky kids were treated to a 75 minute clinic with the pros at Harvard’s Murr courts. The kids rotated around the courts about every 10-15 minutes to get time with several pros.

After a tough night of Showdown squash, the pros were in happy/relaxed form for the Jam, showing the kids basic shots/tricks, and giving advice on the game. A big thanks to the pros for being such good sports.

In addition to the Showdown players (Nick Matthew, James Willstrop, Amr Shabana, and Mohamed El Shorbagy) the following were kind enough to give their time to the clinics: Ali Farag (Harvard #1 player) Paul Mathieson (Dover Squash Academy pro) Simba Muhwati (Cross Courts pro) Fernanda Rocha (UClub pro) Ryan Thompson (SquashBusters pro) and Chris Walker (former world #4 – who happened to be in town!)

Thanks to John Nimick for delivering the players and coordinating with Mass Squash to make this happen. Thanks to Harvard to allowing the program to happen at the Murr Center, and thanks to Mass Squash coordinators/volunteers Tom Poor, Chris Spahr, Jon Ross, Morgan Poor, Peggy Burchenal, and Dan Reagan for assisting.

Some nice photos from the event can be seen here.
