Squash Coach Seminar on 1.5.13 from 9am-5pm at the Harvard Murr Center

Dear Squash Coach,
MA Squash along with Mike Way and Harvard University are pleased to present the Squash Coach Seminar on January 5, 2013 from 9am-5pm at the Harvard Murr Center. This event is aimed at school, parent, and all other coaches of novice and intermediate squash players. We ask you to contact Nat Lovell and save the date in your calendar if you are interested in attending.

Mike Way, now head squash coach at Harvard, comes to us from Ontario where he has coached squash players of all ages for years, among them, world-class notables such as Jonathan Power, Graham Ryding, and Shahier Razik. He has led many successful seminars in the past.

Reg Schonborn is Assistant Squash Coach at Harvard. His extensive background includes having played on 4 Championship Trinity College teams and coaching 2 more.

Beth Zeitlin, Strength and Conditioning Coach for Harvard’s Men’s and Women’s Squash teams. In addition, Beth trains the Harvard/ Radcliffe Men’s and Women’s rugby teams. Beth has also worked with both the Men’s and Women’s teams at Trinity College, CT and with the Women’s team at McGill University in Ontario. Raised in Canada, Beth was fortunate to develop an early specialty working with individual players on both the Junior and Senior National teams.

Karen Reed, US National Squash Team Assistant Coach 2000-2007. Head Squash Coach, Greenwich Academy: 14 New England Titles; 5 National Titles; 15 Fairchester Athletic Association Titles.

Ken Way, Performance Psychologist for over 20 years working with many sports, mainly soccer. In squash he has worked with the Canadian National Team, world champion Jonathon Power, X5 world champion Sarah Fitzgerald, and world #1 John White.

This event will cover junior development and team building dynamics. The speakers will present best practices featuring on-court demonstration and two-way conversation. MA Squash will provide a light lunch break at noon. Anticipated topics to be covered include:

12:30-1:15 WEEKLY PRACTICE PROGRAM: PREPARING FOR MATCHES-Mike Way and Reg Schonborn
1:15-2:00 TEAM BUILDING-Karen Reed
2:00-2:45 TECHNICAL REVIEW: BEST PRACTICES AND CORRECTIVE PROGRAMS-Mike Way
2:45-3:00 BREAK
3:00-3:45 TRUE FOCUS-Ken Way
4:00-5:00 ON COURT COACHING-Presenters available for further discussion

Attendees are encouraged to bring their racquets to experience drills and practices, and to participate in round robin play after 4pm.

The cost is free to all school coaches and the first 50 MA Squash members to confirm attendance. Any remaining spots will be allotted to non-members at $20 per person. Be aware that Harvard does charge for parking at the Murr Center.
