Massachusetts Squash is sad to announce that Sam Magruder passed away suddenly on Wednesday night, July 25th while playing a Summer League squash match.
Sam was a long time friend and supporter of squash. He was President of Massachusetts Squash from 2007-2009, and for many years served on the Massachusetts Squash Board, chaired of the Summer League and the Fall/Winter 50+ Leagues, and acted as Age Group coordinator for the state tournaments. He captained or played on many Harvard Club teams and was a supporter of SquashBusters. A remembrance will be published on our website later.

Samuel Hay Savage Magruder
Magruder, Samuel Hay Savage Of Newton, born on April 30, 1945 passed away suddenly July 25th, 2012 at the age of 67. Beloved husband of Elizabeth Clarke Magruder and devoted father of William Wallace Burns Magruder, Elizabeth Beane Magruder, and Abigail Lowell Magruder. He was the son of the late Lloyd Burns Magruder Jr. and his surviving mother Beatrice Hardcastle Magruder of Barnstable, MA. He is also survived by his sister Mary Blue Magruder of Cambridge, MA and sister Sarah Beall Magruder of Barnstable, MA. His brother George Lloyd Magruder predeceased Sam. Sam graduated from The Kent School in 1963, Princeton University in 1967, and Harvard Business School in 1974 following active service in the US Navy submarine fleet between 1967 and 1971. All are welcome to attend the Memorial Service on Friday, August 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Church, 76 Eldredge Street, Newton, MA, as well as the Burial Service on Saturday, August 4 at 11:00 a.m. at The Magruders, 243 Indian Trail, Barnstable, MA.
