MA Squash created the MA Squash League Championship Cup in 2017. This title is awarded to the club that has the best overall results in league play during a season.
The University Club was the 2024 winner of the MA Squash League Championship Cup. Past winners include Cambridge Athletic Club in 2023, Life Time-MetroWest in 2022, Union Boat Club in 2019, BSC/Healthpoint (Waltham) in 2018.
2024 League Finals Recap:
All League Finals Night at Harvard’s Murr Center on March 28th saw squash enthusiasts of all ages there to cheer on their favorite teams, friends, and even former foes. Plenty of cheering, eating and drinking kept the crowd well beyond 10pm, with the over 50+ division extending each match to 5 games to complete the evening. Closest match of the night went to Newton Squash & Tennis Club which one by one point after tying in matches and games over SquashWest in the O3.5.
Seven divisions played their final matches of the 2023-2024 season. Three clubs had at least two teams competing in finals, and the University Club, with three teams in the finals, ultimately claimed the League Championship Cup with wins in the Open 5.0+ and Open 6.0+ divisions.
Prior to finals night, several clubs were in the running, and only the last few matches indicated which club had the best overall results in league play during the season, earning points during semifinals and finals. One point behind the University Club was Cambridge Athletic, then Life Time-MetroWest, followed by Union Boat Club. The individual division champions are listed below.

Behind every successful league season are the organizational skills of the captains and the guidance of the league chairs. Kudos, too, to Linda Watts who annually somehow wrangles all the interlocking pieces and handles last minute changes to create the match schedules.
League participation continued its rebound with over 65 teams participating in winter months plus the return of the Magruder Summer League with a healthy 11 teams. This year both the O5.0+ and Women’s 2.5/3.5 division teams were fielding five players weekly (others generally field four). Overall, the 881 active players on these 77 teams represent another 37% increase over last year which bodes well. Here’s to more squash!
