Massachusetts State Junior Championships
March 1-3, 2013
The Massachusetts State Juniors began in 1996 and over the years has been staged at several different sites. It was held again this year at the SquashBusters Center, the home of Boston’s outstanding urban youth program. Since this tournament is closed to players outside New England and Connecticut, it is a Tier 1 event meaning that finishing positions earn 75% of a Gold tournament’s ranking points.
This year’s event was well attended although several of the area’s top players opted to play in a Gold tournament at Yale, a tournament that had been rescheduled due to a weather postponement. 147 entrants from the New England area competed in ten divisions, playing some 300 matches in a little over 48 hours. Draw sizes were manageable enough to provide a Saturday start for all divisions, and Monrad draws enabled almost everyone to play four or five matches to a single finishing spot.
