Update on the 2025-2026 Season
Greetings Squash Enthusiasts!!
The season has been amazing so far with a women’s PSA satellite tournament, the MFS Pro-Am Doubles tournament, high school and juniors tournaments in our region, and one of our 11 public high school teams joining over 200 high school teams down in Philly for nationals. Congrats to all who have competed and to the overall growth of juniors squash. Two of our biggest events are coming soon to wrap up our leagues and state singles championships. Hundreds will gather to revel in our vibrant and diverse squash community.
Leagues. In addition to the 11 teams playing in the Magruder Summer League, we have had another 64 teams from 19 different clubs participating in 8 divisions during the regular season. PLAYOFFS are underway, with 12 of the 13 clubs that entered the playoff round still having at least one team in the running (8 clubs have 2 or more teams in the fray). The temperature is rising, and win or lose, we will celebrate the end of the league season at the all leagues finals night on Thursday, March 26 starting at around 6:15, in Harvard’s Murr Center. BE THERE. Food/drink courtesy of MA Squash, with some unbelievable squash and cheering amongst friends and former foes. The League Championship Cup will be awarded at the end of evening…place your bets?!
States. There are 4 self-scheduling MA Squash state championships currently underway. Finals for both the juniors and adults participating in this year’s singles championships will be held on Thursday, April 30 at Harvard’s Murr Center. Juniors will start around 4:30, and adults closer to 6:15. This is a wonderful event where we can appreciate the finest squash at all levels, skills, and ages. Plenty of food and drink. Details on the draws and names of participants can be found here. (juniors here).
As was the case last year, the Tom Poor MA State hardball doubles tournament finals will be held on two nights, both at The University Club: April 27 and May 4. Hardball doubles draws are here. Speaking of hardball, USQ is holding the US Mixed Doubles Championship in Boston at The University Club March 27-29…more information will be available soon on the 5 draws that weekend.
The 4th MA Squash state tourney is of course the softball doubles championship. Matches are just starting in Newton, Wellesley, and Acton. Finals will be at SquashWest on Thursday, May 14.
A few more events will take place before this season comes to a close – stay tuned for details on the next Young Professionals event (informal playing and socializing in May) and of course the Annual Meeting at The University Club on Monday May 4 (concurrent with some of the Tom Poor hardball doubles matches). Come congratulate the winners and awardees and learn more about MA Squash.
Lest you think nothing happens as we approach summer in New England, June includes a return of Symphony Showdown (squash at Symphony Hall)!! Keep your calendars free on Thursday, June 11…stellar squash, and much to savor with world class players right here in Boston. The Magruder Summer League will start shortly thereafter for those in the habit of keeping skills sharp all year long.
Stay informed about these events and other upcoming opportunities: the summer squash camps, the updated junior round robins on March 15 and April 19, etc. Sign up for the MA Squash Newsletter. The Squash Calendar is another good resource for local and regional events. Hope to see you at one or many of our upcoming celebrations…and happy to hear your thoughts and suggestions!
